If you work a lot during the day I'd also invest in the offline coins, but not too much cuz it gets pricey fast, so that when you wake up after sleeping or take a break after a four hour busy time at work, it's not so disappointing to see the pitiful amount of coins gathered when offline. Also cuz I'm bored with nothing better to do with my time than to hit chests and stuff.

The spreadsheet doesn't like to upgrade the hammer a lot, but when I hit 50b for the spell book and idle coins/damage and only needed 7b for the hammer, I started to put stones into the hammer to get to higher value portals faster since it would overall increase stone collection. I also put in points for treasure slug chance because I'm antsy about spending boom stones and started to go off of the spreadsheet a bit to put more coins into the slug hammer so I could get to the portal upgrades faster. There's a lot of tapping chests then returning to world screen to reset chests though and that can get tedious. I found that in addition to the spreadsheet souvenirs that they recommend, the increased coins from chests helped a lot, if you don't mind clicking them, especially at that stage where you get the tunnels to the 3 chests a lot. I had that sharp increase of difficulty too.
